What to Say in a Retirement Card

Your friend or loved one is retiring and you need to say something significant in a retirement card that is personal and meaningful.

Relax, I'm going to show you where to get a great card that can say a lot; but also how to express your heart-felt wishes in a way that will be remembered.

People transition into retirement for many different reasons; but one thing that remains the same for all is how enormous the change feels. It's not like changing a job for most. It's more like one of the biggest changes in your entire life. For some it feels scary and they experience it like an end to something. When in reality, it can be a grand beginning.

Unfulfilled seniors are more prone to health problems including depression. To stay vital and creative, they need to have a purpose. Maybe it's to be with their families and grandchildren. Or they might start a non-profit organization or volunteer to help other seniors. Talk about that.

Here's a few suggestions that work like magic:

1. They need to know that their transition isn't the end of the world as they know. Remind them in you retirement card that it is simply another new opportunity waiting to be created.

2. Talk about the strengths that you have observed this person display over the years of working with them, how they inspired you to be a better person, as well as mention how much you will miss them.

3. You could mention how lucky the next people are who get to be with them.

4. Retirement quotations and thoughtful sayings can give your retirement cards and speeches a special dimension. Use a quote that sets a distinctive tone for your message.

It's easy to search of quotes online, but here are a few ideas to get you started:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond imagination. It is our light more than our darkness which scares us. We ask ourselves – who are we to be brilliant, beautiful, talented, and fabulous. But honestly, who are you to not be so?" ... Nelson Mandella

“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.” ...Pericles (Greek)
